Flexible Stone Fire Performance
How to evaluate fire-related claims using the exact product, test method, classification, assembly and project jurisdiction.

Overview
“Fireproof” is not an adequate product specification. Fire performance must be supported by a current report for the exact product or defined assembly, using a recognized method and interpreted against the requirements of the project location.
What to verify in a test report
Check the tested product code, thickness, backing, adhesive or substrate where relevant, laboratory, method, date, classification and any limitations. A report for a different construction should not be represented as proof for the proposed assembly.
Product versus assembly performance
A surface-material test and a wall-assembly test answer different questions. The design team and authority having jurisdiction should determine which evidence is required.
Before making a compliance statement
Match the proposed SKU and installation system to the available documents, identify gaps and obtain professional or authority review where required. Do not generalize one result across every flexible stone product.
Frequently asked questions
Is flexible stone fireproof?
That category-wide claim should not be made. Fire performance varies by product and assembly and must be supported by the relevant test and classification documents.
Can a supplier certificate replace a test report?
Not automatically. Project reviewers may require the complete report, laboratory credentials, sample identification and evidence that the tested construction matches the proposal.
