A decorative panel can have useful moisture or weathering properties without making the completed wall “waterproof” or suitable for every climate. Performance depends on the panel, adhesive, joints, penetrations, substrate, drainage and maintenance strategy.
Define the actual exposure
Interior splash zones, continuously wet areas, sheltered exteriors and exposed facades are different conditions. Record rainfall, UV, temperature, wind, salts, cleaning and drying potential before selecting the assembly.
Review evidence at the right level
Product water-absorption or weathering data may support material selection, but it does not replace wall design, flashing, drainage, joint and penetration details or substrate protection.
Approve maintenance and repair access
Define cleaning methods, inspection intervals and how damaged panels, sealants or joints can be repaired. Use only compatible cleaners and protective treatments validated on the finish.
